Lowcountry Forever – Summerville YMCA Summer Programs – May 31, 2026

LOWCOUNTRY FOREVER – May 31, 2026
GUEST: Justin Ramel, Marketing Director
ISSUE: Water Safety
The state of South Carolina ranks 9th in the nation in drowning deaths and the majority of those happen in Berkeley, Dorchester and Colleton Counties. Again this summer, the Summerville YMCA will work to change those numbers through their “Splash Into Safey” program. Justin Ramel, the YMCA Marketing Director explained what the program is, as the YMCA partners with Colleton and Dorchester County to provide basic swimming and survival lessons, including CPR training, to those in rural areas. The YMCA brings a mobile pool to locations in Walterboro and St. George, spending two weeks in each town teaching children, age 5 to 11, and their parents these basic skills. And the families need pay only one dollar per day for the program. Ramel provided all the information on how the training is executed and how families can sign-up to participate.
