Lowcountry Dog Magazine was created to provide information and assistance for pet owners, and also to assist local animal rescue organizations. Each year the digital Magazine hosts events to raise money for those animal non-profits. Brian Foster, the publisher of Lowcountry Dog Magazine, discussed the upcoming event, the annual Woofstock music and dog festival. This year’s event is April 12 at the Hanahan Amphitheater. Foster shared how the money raised for the event would be shared with animal shelter partners and how adoption and fostering opportunities would be available. The publisher also explained how individuals can become Lowcountry Dog Magazine members and the benefits of that. Foster also spoke about the challenges shelters are facing and how people can help.

SEGMENT #2: Charleston County School District
GUEST: Cheryl Walden, STEM Community Engagement Specialist
ISSUE: Education
Each spring, the Charleston County School District hosts the Liberty Hill Community STEM Day. Cheryl Walden, a STEM Community Engagement Specialist, provided the specifics on the March 29th free event and spoke of the importance of the event to students. Walden was joined by Deltra Clegg, a CCSD STEM Coordinator who shared a definition of what STEM is, and how it doesn’t replace the “3 R’s” – reading, writing and arithmetic, but instead enhances them. And Antoinette Green, a CCSD STEM Career Specialist, talked about the additional opportunities available to students who are strong in STEM areas, both on the local and national basis. The three also talked about growing STEM with girls, and in minority communities.
