Landmark for Families, formerly Carolina Youth Development Corporation, was founded more than 200 years ago. The organization helps children in difficult family situations, a number of different ways, including counseling, family training & therapy and even providing residence and foster care. Victoria Steagall, Landmark for Families’ Development Director explained the ways the nonprofit assists those in need and spoke about the more than 800 families they work with annually. She also provided information on their upcoming Pickle Ball tournament and Give Me Shelter 5K Color Run and how the money raised from these events will benefit the non-profit.

SEGMENT #2: Bridges of Hope
GUEST: Kristen Nooe, Director of Development
ISSUE: Grief
We all deal with grief in our own way, and children deal with it differently than adults. Bridges of Hopes is a Lowcountry non-profit that assists children from 7 to 17 who lose a parent or sibling. According to Kristen Noon, the Director of Development with Bridges of Hope, one in ten children will deal with this loss. Many times, these children don’t receive needed support as the remaining parent is dealing with their own loss and must now negotiate life in a new role, including as a single parent. Additionally, kids generally relate better to other children so Bridges of Hope attempts to provide support, counseling and even activities to put them in contact with their peers. None provided information on their upcoming Gala and how the funds raised from that event would be put into programs that would benefit these children, and Bridges of Hope.
