Hurricane Season 2019: Are You Ready?

With hurricane season around the corner, Star 99.7 and our TV partner Storm Team 2 are your severe weather information centers. Below are some simple steps you can take to prepare your home and family.

Stay Updated – listen for regular updates on Star 99.7 and Storm Team 2.
In the event of an approaching hurricane, we’ll regularly share updates on the storm’s known path and effect on weather and driving conditions, as well as any evacuation orders or other emergency alerts.

You can also sign up to receive Weather Center emails containing hurricane and other emergency weather updates:

Know Your Risk – consult the Storm Surge Map.
Climatecentral.org‘s computer model estimates storm surges down to where you live. Enter your address to see how a storm surge would affect your area.

Know Your Zone – identify your evacuation zone.
Enter your address in the SCEMD interactive map to learn which evacuation area your location falls in.

Plan Your Route – and do the following before you evacuate:
If an evacuation order is given, check current road conditions and make sure you give yourself enough time to leave before the weather turns bad. Then do the following before you leave the house:

  • Take your storm supplies (see Storm prep Kit list below) and important papers, including driver’s licenses and insurance policies.
  • Take irreplaceable items such as photos or keepsakes.
  • Let friends and relatives know where you are going.
  • Turn off your electricity, water and gas, if officials tell you to do so.
  • Lock windows and doors.
